This varies widely depending on your application, your load capacity, and what you’re trying to do. It’s something that we’ve tried to simplify on our website. So, when you pull up a specific SKU on our website, you can actually see ranges of costs. What determines these ranges or what shifts the the cost of a caster are usually things like the different add-ons or different options, such as swivel ox brakes, tow guards, or different types of urethanes. those really are the factors that kind of determine the cost range.
HOW DO I CHOOSE A CASTER?
The second question we get is “How do I choose a Caster?” Sometimes, our customers find it hard to know where to even begin. Typically, people have a load that they’re trying to move. so what we tell people is “Take this load, say three thousand pounds, and divide it by three.”
Even though you might have four casters, three points make a plane. Considering that not everything is flat, usually three wheels are probably carrying that load, so divide your load by three and then find a Caster that has that load capacity. In this case, each load would be able to handle 1,000 lbs.
CAN I CUSTOMIZE A CASTER OR WHEEL?
People see a catalog part but it doesn’t quite fit thier mounting pattern, maybe they need it a bit taller. You can do minor modifications as simple as laser cutting a new top plate, making the legs a little longer — that stuff’s no problem.
We can even go to the far extreme end where if you need to design a Caster to carry 200,000 pounds, we can help you design a caster to carry 200,000 pounds.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET MY CASTER?
We also get asked a lot about how long it takes to get a caster once it is ordered. Our average lead time is around two weeks and this can change depending on complexity, but in general our lead time is two weeks or less and we’ve built our Manufacturing Systems to allow us to handle a high variation in type of product as well as quantity.
Hopefully, this gets you started on your journey to speccing out an industrial caster. If you have more questions please check out our
